Based on Jo-ann and her family’s scenario which was shown in this unit’s presentation, what are some ways in which you would:

1. Build hope in Jo-ann’s child by pointing out specific, accurate, and positive facts about the event.

Scenario:

Around 7PM on a Saturday night, Jo-ann and her family were coming back home after an outing. Before they could cross the gate into their home, they were stopped at gunpoint and ordered to get out of their car. The mother, Jo-ann, quickly took her child aged 7-years-old out of the vehicle. Her husband reluctantly got out of the vehicle a few seconds later. While ushering her child into the yard, Jo-ann heard an evident struggle behind her. Her husband was engaging the robber as the assailant attempted to drive away in the car. The robber fired three shots at the father, and while he was not hurt by any of the bullets, he sustained multiple injuries on his leg from holding onto the moving vehicle as the assailant attempted to drive off. Upon multiple police calls made by neighbours and Jo-Ann herself, the police came by minutes later to assess the scene.
